DSS PrototypeThis web shows how a Decision Support System (DSS) for aquaculture could be developed and implemented. It has been implemented as part of the ECASA project and is intended to show one way in which the ECASA Toolkit concept could be applied. This is not a working package. It is designed to show how a DSS might work, but the actual completion would be a difficult challenge, and this present version offers a possible design. A PDF version of the ECASA presentation of the DSS concept presented on 7 May 2007 is available. A more general discussion of the use of indicators and models was presented at an FAO-FIMA workshop on the Ecosystem Approach to Aquaculture (EAA) on 9 May 2007 and is available here. The intended appearance of the DSS is shown in black, and explanatory notes are shown in red. Several working prototypes illustrating part of this overall design have also been developed. Two programs that can be downloaded for use on personal computers (Windows only) have been developed. One is yet another version of the CSTT model which shows how a DSS can be developed to use multiple languages and suipport both numerical and fuzzy input. This program has been updated in 2010 and can be downloaded from an alternate website. The other will illustrate both fuzzy rules and some more sophisticated topics in fuzzy mathematics and is still under development. |

The material on this site illustrates some of the material developed by William Silvert for the ECASA project. It includes several prototypes and demonstration versions of Decision Support Systems (DSS) showing how Expert Systems can be used and the kinds of possible user interfaces for a DSS for aquaculture site selection. More recent versions are available here. This page last updated 10 Jun 2010. |
